Social Ministries are the rubber-hits-the-road aspect of faith....
As James teaches us: James 2:18-19 "But someone will say, 'You have faith and I have works.' Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith."
NRSV
It is part of our Wesleyan heritage to seek to express our faith in the Triune God by cooperating with the Holy Spirit who moves us to "do" good works that are pleasing to God. This is not a solomn "duty" but is a joyful gift of being able to "be" the operative means of God to demonstrate His unfailing love of humanity. Further, we are not "quietists" who wait upon the Spirit to push us out the doors of the church! Instead we firmly believe we are to SEEK the Holy Spirit's presence IN the world and cooperate with God WHERE God is already at work. Thus we United Methodists are found, from youngest to oldest, from strongest to most infirm, actively involved with the world and those who live therein, being the Body of Christ showing forth the glory of God in this world. You will find us at our sick neighbor's home, next door mowing the grass, bringing a meal, or simply calling to express our concern in the name of Jesus the Christ. And you will find us involved in formally organized mission projects that are United Methodist specific and ecumenical organizations as well.
On this page you will find examples of recent formally organized mission work. Please look to the District Calendar found under the menu item "What We Are Doing" in the left column of this page for ways in which you and your brothers and sisters of all ages can participate in up-coming events.
